Anxiety
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive and ongoing worry. People with GAD experience persistent and severe anxiety and are unable to control these feelings.
Symptoms of anxiety can be both physical and mental, and include:
Panic and anxiety attacks
An impending sense of doom
Irritability
Increase in blood pressure
Rapid heart rate
Insomnia
Muscle tension
Stomach and digestive distress
According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, GAD affects about 3.1% of the US population (about 6.8 million adults) per year, and the greatest risk of GAD is between childhood and middle age¹.
TMS is a treatment option for those experiencing anxiety.
TMS targets a region of the brain called the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (RDLPFC) and applies magnetic pulses to stimulate that circuit. By using a low-frequency stimulation pattern, TMS decreases the overactivity implicated in anxiety.
